The statistics are intended to describe the consequences of road transport in Sweden in the form of accidents and injuries to persons.
The statistics are used, for among other purposes, to evaluate and formulate work on road safety. In practice, the statistics have been produced since 1935.
The extent of the study
The statistics are limited to the cases when at least one vehicle has been involved, where the accident has taken place on a road, and where a person has been injured. The statistics are, by their nature, activity statistics, where a professional group reports its activities. In this case, the police report the injuries and accidents in road traffic that they come into contact with in connection with investigating traffic cases. This means there is a hidden number associated with the statistics.
Publication
The statistics are published in the form of a number of tables on SIKA’s website and in report form in both an electronic and printed version.
