The statistics are intended to shed light on the development of the Swedish merchant fleet and its composition. The statistics are also intended to shed light on the Swedish shipping industry’s use of Swedish and leased foreign merchant ships and the manning and use of fuel of these ships.

The statistics are used for assessments in sea transport policy and for all information concerning the development of the Swedish merchant fleet as a whole and different types of ship in the fleet.

The extent of the study
The study covers all Swedish-flagged merchant and special ships. As from 1998 fishing vessels, merchant ships and ships’ manning and fuel use are included.

Publication
Svenska och utländska fartyg i svensk regi [Swedish vessels and foreign vessels chartered from abroad year, in Swedish] is published once a year in electronic form.
